Aerospace Engineering – Perspective and Prediction

Professor Seung Jo Kim completed his bachelor degree in the department of aerospace engineering of Seoul National University in 1973. After working at the Agency for Defense Development as an Airforce research Officer, he went to the University of Texas for higher degrees in 1979, and finished the M.S. (1981) and Ph.D. (1985). He came back to be an assistant professor to his alma mater, Seoul National University in 1986. And he is currently a fellow of American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics. Seung Jo Kim had served as the President of KARI (Korea Aerospace Research Institute) for three years term since June 2011. During his tenure, Professor Kim led the launches and successful operations of three Satellites and notably, successful launch of the first Korean space launch vehicle, Naro in January of 2013. After three years of term, he came back to his department of Seoul National University. In August 2015, he retired and is now a professor emeritus of SNU. He is now advising Korean government including ministry of National Defense and etc. while taking care of the planning and policy works as a Vice President of Korean Academy of Science and Engineering (KAST). And he was appointed as a member of Advisory Space board of Luxembourg early in 2017.
